Wow! Just in the nick of time, Michelle Ward and her GPP (Green Pepper Press) Street Team Crusade comes along to light a fire under me to begin the Visual Journal that I have been trying to start for 2 or 3 years now! Of course, as with all things me, it took me weeks and weeks to muster up the fortitude to actually begin a page, but (drumroll, please), here it is:
(REMEMBER to click on the thumbnail images to get a larger image! Again, a sideways picture! I'm still trying to unlock that mystery. ANY help on how to avoid this would be appreciated!)
Nevertheless, my first visual journal page, evidence of my blog for 2007. I took an entry from Nov. 23 and journaled it, along with a photo post of another date. I was working on my new favorite background, masking tape. I painted the background first and then it sat for days. Until, a newspaper headline called out to be added on: Insight into Identity (perfect!). The poem reflects my love of writing/reading poetry, but also the inclusion of words in all of my artistic endeavors. Finally, I practiced yet another gel medium transfer with the photo. If you look closely you will see some tissue paper snowflakes of blue and white layered underneath the purple ones. Overall, pretty satisfying!
I have decided to make my journal by binding these 7"x12" pages made on Fabrino 140# paper, so that I can work outside the journal and enter the pages in as I go. This will also allow me to take pages out for scanning, copying, etc., so that they can be reworked. I'm really jazzed about this idea, as I always seem to get a little stuck with premade journals, or manage to glue pages together that weren't meant to be. It also will give me a chance to change around the paper I use if I feel that urge!
I hope that you think about visual journaling this year...here's some more photos of this page for inspiration and some links to other visual journaling favorites of mine:

Give please. My grandmother started walking five miles a day when she was sixty. She's ninety-seven now, and we don't know where the hell she is. Help me! There is an urgent need for sites: Cnn stock market news. I found only this - crash effect market stock. Allen system, and a variety of other systems to find the answer. Pancakes with grilled peaches and butterscotch sauce. With respect :-(, Chen from England.

Hi Heather! I really like the idea of working on pages separately, but am a newbie at the process of turning those pages into a book... I'll check back to see how you do that... thanks for sharing! All my best, K.

Heather - love seeing your page, and the details...and bravo to you for starting! Working loose is a good idea (I always take my spiral bound journals apart so I can work on more than one page at a time). I hope this process was rewarding enough to get you into a new habit you will thank yourself for :) Thanks for sharing with the team!
